About the signal
The films end.
The signal continues.
CRONENDROME brings the worlds of David Cronenberg into focus—and sends a new signal of its own.
The archive & the transmission
Begin with the films. Follow what they leave behind.
Go deep into the films: the people who made them, the ideas that drive them and the details that build their worlds. Explore their material history in the Museum. Follow the creative current into original CRONENDROME images, films, music and print editions.
01 / Origin
An afterimage takes on a life of its own.
David Cronenberg’s films leave things behind: a body that can no longer be trusted, a machine that feels almost alive, an image that changes the person watching it. These things travel. They enter dreams, everyday objects and the way the world looks after the credits.
Cronendrome begins in that afterimage. The work has accumulated its own charge. It leaks beyond the films, crosses from one medium into another and starts producing transmissions of its own.
02 / Transmission
It finds another body.
The signal surfaces as images, moving films and sound. Screens acquire organs. Machinery develops an appetite. Industrial rhythms pulse through spaces that seem to breathe. Each transmission carries traces of the last, altered by the medium it passes through.
There is no final form. An image becomes a sequence. A sequence leaves a sound behind. What appears to be interference becomes the beginning of another transmission.
03 / Matter
Eventually, it becomes something you can hold.
Print gives the signal weight. A page holds an image still; a bound volume gathers its traces. Cronendrome Vol. 1 is one such body: a passage of the ongoing transmission, fixed in ink and paper.
04 / Source
Follow it back to the films.
Behind the transmission is a growing research archive devoted to David Cronenberg’s cinema. Case studies follow the scripts, people, places, effects, sounds and objects that made each film possible. Sources and surviving evidence anchor that work in the films’ actual histories.
Cronendrome is an independent project inspired by the cinema of David Cronenberg.
